What is HandheldTunes?
A free settings recommender for handheld gaming PCs. Pick your device, type a game, and we synthesize three tuned profiles (Max FPS, Balanced, Max Quality) from live community sources. Every recommendation links back to its origin so nothing is a black box.
Where does the data come from?
Live from device-specific subreddits (r/SteamDeck, r/ROGAlly, r/XboxAlly, r/LegionGo, r/MSIClaw), PCGamingWiki, Steam Community guides, plus (on Advanced scans) YouTube benchmark transcripts. Sources are weighted by upvote score; every result links back to the original.
Basic vs Advanced: what's actually different?
Basic uses regex extraction over the scraped sources. Fast, deterministic, free. Advanced ships the same sources through Claude AI for richer synthesis: better intensity classification, game-specific key insights, and setting overrides where community evidence contradicts sensible defaults. Both produce the same three-profile structure.
Is it free?
Basic is free. Anonymous visitors get 2 lifetime scans, signing in (launching soon) lifts you to 5 daily. Advanced uses tokens (10 / 50 / 200 packs) that never expire, with no subscription. The token store launches alongside sign-in.
Why only 2 free scans without sign-in?
Each scan hits external services (Reddit, Steam, YouTube) and consumes our rate-limit budget. Two anonymous lookups lets you try the product cold. Signing in proves you're a human, lifting your daily quota.
Which handhelds are supported?
Steam Deck (LCD + OLED), ROG Ally / Ally X, Asus ROG Xbox Ally / Xbox Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go / Go S, and MSI Claw 8 AI+. We add new devices as they ship. Drop a note at hello@handheldtunes.com if yours is missing.
How accurate are the recommendations?
We classify playability into tiers (Excellent / Smooth / Playable / Choppy / Unplayable) rather than promising specific FPS numbers, since those vary by scene, build, and patch. Source links are always shown so you can cross-check. Advanced scans add an AI confidence rating (high / medium / low) so you know when sources are sparse.
Do you track me?
No analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party SDKs. We set a single anonymous cookie (ht_visitor) to count your free scans. That's the entire data footprint.
